The Festetics Imre Agricultural Biotechnology College is mainly focused on the fields of genetics, gene preservation, and biotechnology. We organize numerous professional lectures reflecting the latest research trends in collaboration with our sponsoring institute and other departments of the university. The aim is to familiarize students with these less explored topics and provide answers to their questions. In addition to educational lectures, we regularly arrange laboratory visits where students, under the guidance of renowned researchers, can learn about the latest methodological approaches and even have the opportunity to try them out firsthand. Every academic year, we also organize professional and community-building excursions through grant funding. These excursions include visits to places actively involved in gene preservation, such as the Budapest Zoo, Budapest Tropicarium, Vácrátót Arboretum, and the Hungarian Natural History Museum. Uniquely, our College also organizes events in English for international students.
The Festetics Imre Agricultural Biotechnology College continues the activities of the former Festetics Imre Molecular Biology Student Circle. The Student Circle operated for years under the leadership of Dr. Zsolt Galli, who invited distinguished researchers and doctoral students to give lectures at the College, setting an example that our College follows. The namesake, Festetics Imre, was the brother of Georgikon's founder, Festetics György, who played a prominent role in Hungarian agricultural education. Festetics Imre not only conducted significant breeding work but also played a crucial role in the birth of Hungarian genetics.
Our sponsoring institute, the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology, considers it its mission to disseminate the results, discoveries, and applications of genetics, agricultural biotechnology science, and related fields not only through university courses but also through other forums. Collaboration with the Collegium provides an excellent opportunity for this purpose, allowing participation from any student of the university.
