Precision Breeding Group - Detailed
Last modified: 03. November 2022
Our research focus is applied and basic research in the field of animal biotechnology. Based on state of the art genome editing techniques and genomics approaches we create translational animal models of human disorders and for biotechnology purposes as well. The group represents a special segment of agricultural research providing high value animal models for non-food purposes. Recent projects involve rabbit models of heart and cardiovascular diseases and mouse model of autism. Development of genetic, genomic and biotechnology approaches directly supports agricultural purposes. We have continuous cooperations with national and international partners.
Research areas
- Improvement of production capacity of rabbit breeds with genomic methods.
- Generation of a biobank
- Preparation of ex-situ biobank: cryopreservation of sperm and embryo
- Modelling of congenital heart diseases in laboratory rabbit with special focus on long QT syndrome.
- Atherosclerosis in focus: new therapeutic targets and identification of potential drug candidates.
- Improvement of precision genome editing tools in animal models.
- Examination of the genetic background of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in mouse modell.
- Dutpase deficient mouse modell.
